Land restitution campaigner murdered. On 28 March a forensic committee confirmed that the body of a man found in the municipality of Utatá, in the department of Urabá, was that of a land restitution leader who had been missing since Friday 23 March. Manuel Ruiz and his 15-year-old son, Samir, are believed to have been kidnapped by a neo-paramilitary group, Las Aguilas Negras. A second body, which has yet to be confirmed as Samir's, was also found nearby; both men had been shot and their bodies presented signs of “mistreatment” (i.e. torture). Interior Minister Germán Vargas Lleras said “the death of this important leader cannot stop the restitution process because that is precisely what these violent [people] who assassinated him want”.
