Accusations of electoral violence. On 9 April the opposition Partido Revolucionario Dominicano (PRD) denounced that it had video evidence that clearly identifies an alleged militant of the ruling Partido de la Liberación Dominicana (PLD) as the killer of a PRD activist, Antonio Peña Ramos. According to the PRD, Peña Ramos was shot dead on 8 April by a PLD militant in front of the police station in the San Víctor neighbourhood of Moca, the capital of Espaillat province. The PRD alleges that in the process of campaigning, their activist was killed after a PLD militant - who they identify as Pedro Ramos - crossed the 200-metre campaign designated area to attack Peña Ramos in plain view of national police officers. The PRD has called on the authorities to launch a full investigation of the attack and to punish those responsible. It also accused the national police of “negligence and irresponsibility in the face of an armed PLD attack”.
