The Bahamas | Election date set. On 10 April Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham of the ruling Free National Movement (FNM) announced that the next general election will be held on 7 May. The total number of seats to be contested in the parliament is 38, down from 41 in the 2007 general election. In the 2007 election, the conservative FNM won 23 seats against the 18 taken by the left-leaning Progressive Liberal Party (PLP). Ingraham will be seeking a fourth term in office; he previously served between 1992 and 2002.
