In Brief – El Salvador

El Salvador | Gov’t to begin wire-tapping. On 25 April El Salvador’s attorney general, Romeo Barahona, announced that the government would begin wiretapping operations from a new centre for telecommunications interception (CIT) as of next month (May). A law passed in February 2010 gave the government the power to wiretap as part of efforts to combat organized crime. The CIT was funded with a US$5m grant from the US.
