In Brief – Bahamas

Bahamas | Elections. On 7 May Bahamians will go to the polls to vote in a general election. The ruling Free National Movement (FNM), led by Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham, will be seeking to retain power for another term. His party faces a challenge from former Prime Minister Perry Christie’s Progressive Liberal Party (PLP), which dominated Bahamian politics since the country gained independence from Britain in 1974 until 1992. The total number of seats to be contested in the parliament is 38, down from the 41 contested in the 2007 general election.
