Labour unrest threatens flights. On 9 May the secretary general of the association of technical aeronautical personnel (Apta), Ricardo Cirielli, said that Aerolíneas Argentinas (AA) and Austral “have to date failed to pay the salaries of the workers”, adding that “this is the second month in a row with delays since in April they also paid after the Easter bank holidays”. Cirielli has sent a letter to Minister of Labour Carlos Tomada, warning him that if salaries are not paid, workers are likely to protest. Cirielli and the government’s administrators of AA have a history of
tense relations; according to the company’s spokesperson, Daniel Méndez, “salaries started being paid on 2 May and will finish being paid on 11 May”. He also said all employees had been informed of this delay in writing.
