BRAZIL | Cosan moves into gas. On 3 April Britain’s British Gas Group (BG), announced that it had agreed the sale of its 60% stake in Companhia de Gás de São Paulo (Comgás) to the local energy conglomerate, Cosan, for US$1.8bn. Cosan is Brazil’s largest and the world’s second largest bio-ethanol producer, and although it also has other smaller energy businesses, the purchase will mark its first foray into the natural gas distribution business.
