POLITICS | Executive spat worsens. President Ricardo Martinelli on 10 May filed a civil suit in a personal capacity against Vice-President Juan Carlos Varela seeking US$30m in damages for false accusations of corruption. Martinelli recently called upon Varela to resign. The two men are engaged in a dirty power struggle, which has been exacerbated by an alleged bribery scandal involving Martinelli.
