REGION: Calderón shakes up PPP integration scheme

The Plan Puebla Panamá (PPP), an initiative designed to spearhead regional integration and regeneration, was rechristened Proyecto Mesoamérica during a meeting of the nine heads of state of Mexico, Colombia and Central America in Villahermosa, the capital of the southern state of Tabasco in Mexico on 28 June. The decision to change the name was calculated to give a fresh impetus to a project that has stagnated. It is also allowed Mexico's President Felipe Calderón to take ownership of a scheme launched by his predecessor, President Vicente Fox, in 2001.
