MEXICO: Inter-cartel war escalates again

The intensity and brutality of the inter-cartel wars in Mexico have escalated over the past couple of months, with a string of particularly gruesome collective killings that claimed 90 lives, as both main contenders — the Sinaloa/Pacífico and Zetas drug trafficking organisations (DTOs)— took the fighting into the hearts of each other’s core territories. The government, meanwhile, has been taking new security drives into areas other than the hotspots that have experienced the recent escalation.
