Former soldiers of the army disbanded by former President Jean-Bertrand Aristide (1991, 1994-1996, 2001-2004) in 1995 have been stepping up their demand for incorporation into the new armed force that President Michel Martelly promised to set up. They gave the government an ultimatum to appoint a high command and begin the organisation of the new army by 18 May.
