ARGENTINA | Tax take up. According to official statistics, Argentina's tax take increased by 38% annually to Arg$127.1bn (US$41.7bn) in the first half of 2008. In June alone tax income rose 31% to Arg$13.6bn (US$4.47bn), which government officials claim is a sign that the economy is in good shape. Revenues are surging on robust consumer spending, high inflation and of course hefty export levies, including the controversial new sliding-scale export tax on soya and sunflower products.
