Immigration. The US Supreme Court has ruled by 5-3 to strike down three of the four provisions of Arizona’s controversial immigration law, SB1070, which was passed in 2010. It upheld the final, most contentious, part of the law, however, requiring police to check the immigration status of anyone they stop but pointed out that this could be challenged in future lawsuits on the grounds of racial profiling. The Supreme Court noted that this provision of the law must be “implemented in a manner consistent with federal law regulating immigration, protecting the civil rights of all persons and respecting the privileges and immunities of United States citizens.”
