SECURITY | Santa Cruz police declare indefinite strike. On 9 July Governor Daniel Peralta announced he would issue a decree today (10 July), granting an unspecified salary increase to members of the provincial police force who yesterday went into the second week of strikes over minimum wage demands. However, the police yesterday announced they would continue to strike indefinitely until Peralta grants them the 85.9% minimum wage increase they are demanding – the police want the “valor punto”, which establishes the force’s pay scale, to be raised from AR$15.6 (US$3.41) to AR$29 (US$6.35), which would raise the minimum police salary from AR$5,000 (US$1,095) to AR$8,700 (US$1,905).
