Set to regain ‘economic independence’. This week the Argentine government ratified its intention to make the last payment pertaining to the Boden 2012 bonds, which the country was forced to issue during its economic crisis in 2002, on 3 August. The government led by President Cristina Fernández has said that the US$2.3bn payment, which is part of the government’s efforts to reduce its debts, would help the country recover its “economic independence” as it will mark an end to a cycle in which it has had to disburse millions of dollars of funds in order to pay off its decade-old debt.
