MAS touts Morales for second re-election in 2014. On 1 August in Sucre, Bolivia’s ruling Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS) launched President Evo Morales as its preferred candidate for the 2014 elections. Morales has yet to confirm his intentions, but is widely expected to run and win a third consecutive term. The opposition argues that Morales is ineligible to run again but the MAS argues that he is eligible under the new 2009 plurinational constitution, which permits a single re-election. Morales - first elected in 2005 and then again in 2009 under the new constitution - did not attend yesterday’s rally.
