Capriles takes challenge to Chávez

The closer Venezuela’s presidential elections get, the more polling firms seem to appear, and the murkier the picture becomes. With less than two months to go until presidential elections on 7 October, it is not possible to discern whether the candidate for the opposition Mesa de la Unidad Democrática (MUD), Henrique Capriles Radonski, is poised to push President Hugo Chávez harder than any rival since he swept to power in 1998, or whether Capriles will suffer the fate of his predecessors – a resounding defeat.
