MEXICO: Calderón’s victory claims proven premature

President Felipe Calderón clearly wants to reach the end of his term having proven that his public security strategy was the right one. However, his early claims that his government had achieved a significant reduction in both drug-related violence of overall violent crime has been proven premature by reports that show an upturn — and by his government’s large new deployments of security forces in the past week.
