Santos & Nasas: apologies but no retreat. On 14 August President Juan Manuel Santos issued a formal apology to the Nasa people of Cauca for their suffering as a result of the internal conflict and for the suggestions made by some officials that they were in collusion with the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc) guerrillas. Two days later the commander of military forces, General Alejandro Navas, apologised to the indigenous people of Cauca for the violations of human rights that had taken place in their territories.
