MEXICO | Debate over alleged split in Los Zetas. The appearance of banners and videos accusing Miguel Ángel Treviño Morales (‘Z-40’), reputed second-ranking leader of drug trafficking organisation (DTO), Los Zetas, of  having been responsible for the death or capture of a number of a number of the organisation’s leading figures, has sparked a debate over whether the Zetas are heading for a split. While most analysts agree that considerable animosity has developed between Treviño Morales and paramount leader Heriberto Lazcano (‘el Lazca’), and the newsmagazine Proceso has led the field of those depicting this as a major split (claiming that this opinion is shared by ‘security sources of the federal government’), several Zeta-watchers are reluctant to go that far.
