Managua accepts Costa Rican ambassadorial appointment. Today (17 September), Javier Sancho Bonilla will take his post as Costa Rican ambassador to Nicaragua, a position that has been vacant since President Laura Chinchilla took office in May 2010, despite several previous attempts to fill it. Bilateral relations between the two nations have come under serious strain by the alleged Nicaraguan invasion of Isla Calero in October 2010, triggering a territorial dispute that is currently before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) at The Hague. The new appointment and its acceptance suggest a slight improvement in bilateral relations.
