PERU: Optimism & concern over increased hydrocarbons activity

Peru’s hydrocarbons sector is abuzz with activity as international oil and gas firms have made recent discoveries of potentially large deposits. This has sparked optimism within the Peruvian government, which aims to turn the country into a net hydrocarbon exporter. However, this contrasts with the concern that the increased activity and proposed projects is generating among the local indigenous populations and the civil organisations that defend them.
