MEXICO | Pemex explosion. On 18 September Mexico’s state-owned oil firm, Pemex, confirmed that there had been an explosion at its gas accumulation plant in Reynosa, Tamaulipas which resulted in the death of 30 people and left dozens more wounded. The incident, which the authorities believe to be an accident, is the worst experienced by Pemex in the last five years and has raised fresh concerns about the cash-strapped company’s capacity to maintain its facilities adequately.
