Santos vs Uribe = Santistas vs. Uribistas. What remains unclear, however, is whether the two sides can coexist within a single party or if the divisions have finally reached the point at which one side must be ejected or simply choose to leave the Partido de la U (PU). At the PU national convention last weekend, former president Alvaro Uribe (2002-2010) and President Juan Manuel Santos delivered separate speeches - the former opening the convention and the latter closing it - in which neither tried to keep up the pretence that their longstanding friendship and political alliance still exists.
