Cayman premier remains on collision course with UK government. Premier McKeeva Bush told the Cayman Islands (CI) Legislative Assembly on Monday (5 November) that he intended to go ahead with enacting the Framework for Fiscal Responsibility (FFR) in its modified form, despite a furious remonstrance from the British Overseas Territories Minister Mark Simmonds on 2 November. Bush has included two additional provisions over and above those a
greed with the United Kingdom (UK) government in November 2011. In allusion to the UK government’s 2009 assumption of direct rule in the Turks and Caicos Islands, the opposition leader Alden McLaughlin responded to Bush’s announcement by warning that the CI was coming “very close to the brink of some form of serious intervention by the UK government".
