Senate ratifies tax information sharing agreement with Argentina. On 7 November the Uruguayan senate ratified, with 16 votes from the ruling Frente Amplio (FA) bench, a bilateral tax information sharing agreement with Argentina which, alongside a similar one signed with Brazil, has facilitated Uruguay’s removal from the Organisation of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)’s ‘black list’ of tax havens. Uruguay’s opposition rejects the treaty, on the argument that the Argentine government will not abide by it. Argentina ratified the treaty in August, but full ratification by Uruguay depends on its approval by the chamber of deputies, where the document will be debated and voted upon before end-November.
