FOREIGN RELATIONS&DRUGS | Bolivia sets date for publication of coca study. Felipe Cáceres, the deputy minister for social defence on 26 November announced that a long awaited study on coca use, which is being funded by the European Union (EU), would be ready by 30 May 2013. On 13 November the EU put fresh pressure on Bolivia’s Foreign Minister David Choquehuanca for the results of the study, which began in 2009, to be published. This took place while Choquehanca was in Europe to shore up support for President Evo Morales’ drug policy. Officially dubbed ‘Coca sí, Cocaína no’, the policy distinguishes between the raw coca leaf, an important symbol of indigenous culture, and cocaine the illegal narcotic.
