In Brief - Colombia-Nicaragua

FOREIGN RELATIONS | Santos and Ortega might meet in Mexico. On 29 November the Colombian ambassador to Mexico, José Gabriel Ortiz, told Colombia’s RCN Radio and Blu Radio that President Daniel Ortega of Nicaragua had requested a meeting with his Colombian counterpart, President Juan Manuel Santos, to talk about the recent International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruling on a longstanding bilateral maritime dispute. Ortiz said that Nicaraga’s ambassador to Mexico, Tamara Brenes Hawkins, had told him that President Ortega wants to “shake his [Santos’s] hand and give him a fraternal hug”. According to Ortiz, Santos had said that he would be willing to meet Ortega, depending on his agenda. Santos will depart Mexico right after the inauguration ceremony for Enrique Peña Nieto on 1 December.
