High voltage row in Brazil’s energy sector

Development: On 4 December the leading opposition senator Aécio Neves described the federal government’s efforts to reduce energy costs as “an imprudence” risking “the insolvency of the sector”, while the state energy secretary in the opposition-governed São Paulo, José Aníbal, dubbed the administration led by President Dilma Rousseff as “authoritarian” and “inept”.
