Labour minister resigns. On 7 December Peru's labour minister, José Villena, resigned after weeks of public and political pressure following an incident at Arequipa airport on 27 November in which he allegedly assaulted airline personnel, demanding that they let him board a plane preparing for takeoff. A LAN airline employee, Ana Lucía Ramos Mariscal, filed a complaint of assault against Villena with the local police. He denies physical assault, but there is video evidence of abusive verbal behaviour. The opposition in congress had summoned Villena to explain the incident. President Ollanta Humala named a lawyer, Nancy Teresa Laos Cáceres, to replace Villena, as of today (10 December).
