Elections. The Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI) swept the board in the state elections in Coahuila, northern Mexico, on 19 October. The PRI won all the first-past-the post seats in the local congressional elections. This confirms the trend of recent state elections, which indicates that voters are rallying again to the PRI, which ruled the country from the Mexican Revolution (1910) until 2000. The country holds mid-term elections in 2009 and the PRI, currently the third biggest party in the lower chamber of congress, is likely to become not only the main party in congress, but also win a majority of the 500 deputies' seats up for grabs.
