Peña Nieto takes full advantage of his honeymoon period

Even before taking up the presidency on 1 December, Enrique Peña Nieto showed that he meant business, announcing an ambitious set of reforms aimed at modernising Mexico. He enlisted the ruling Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI) to lay the political groundwork in congress [RM-12-12] with the first reform approved in the transition period, with the help of the outgoing Partido Acción Nacional (PAN). This was but a taste of things to come. After his inauguration Peña Nieto moved with alacrity, looking to take full advantage of the traditional 100-day honeymoon period to obtain several important results within the space of a month.
