GUATEMALA: Menchú's Winaq set to become a party

The supreme electoral court (CSE) has given the go-ahead for indigenous movement Winaq, led by former presidential candidate Rigoberta Menchú, to register as a political party. While undoubtedly significant symbolically, as Winaq is the first party directly representing indigenous interests, the move is unlikely to have an impact in the immediate future.
