NICARAGUA: "Desperate measures" to thwart Montealegre in Managua

With municipal elections just days away, the government of President Daniel Ortega has launched another offensive against the opposition candidate for mayor of Managua, Eduardo Montealegre - this time in the form of an attempted embargo of shares he allegedly has in a local bank, Bancentro. Montealegre, the favourite to win on 9 November, accused the ruling Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional (FSLN) of carrying out “desperate measures" to try and derail his election bid.
