BOLIVIA: Morales kicks out DEA

President Evo Morales applauded the victory of Barack Obama in the US presidential elections, expressing optimism for an improvement in US-Bolivia relations. His remarks, however, followed fast on the heels of his combative decision to order the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to suspend activities in the country. This was a response to a repeat of the threat by the Bush administration to suspend Bolivia's designation as a beneficiary under the Andean Trade Promotion and Drug Eradication Act (Atpdea).
