The first ever Central American Integration System (Sica)-Mexico summit took place last week in Costa Rica, which recently assumed the six-month pro-tempore presidency of the regional entity. The attendance of Mexico’s President Enrique Peña Nieto, Panama’s recent re-entry to the Central American Parliament (Parlacen), Sica’s political arm; as well as pledges to overhaul Sica’s various institutions, were hailed as steps forward in integration efforts.
