The electoral campaign is getting under way in earnest in Paraguay, with a first televised debate between presidential candidates seeking election on 21 April, having taken place this week. Opinion polls suggest that there is little to choose between Horacio Cartes, the wealthy businessman running for the country’s largest political party Asociación Nacional Republicana–Partido Colorado (ANR-PC) and Efraín Alegre, of the Partido Liberal Radical Auténtico (PLRA).
