Paraguay’s Colorados return to the centre stage

The traditional Asociación Nacional Republicana-Partido Colorado (ANR-PC) romped home in Paraguay’s general election on 21 April. With its candidate, Horacio Cartes, comfortably winning the presidential contest, the ANR-PC is now set to return to the seat of power that it held for 61 years continuously until 2008 - when the elections were won by the Left with Fernando Lugo (2008-2012) - after just a single five-year term on the sidelines.
