Aristide causes a stir

More than two years after his return to Haiti former president, Jean-Bertrand Aristide (1991, 1994-1996, 2001-2004), is finally showing signs of political life. Following a rare public appearance on 8 May, to testify in a case about the April 2000 killing of his estranged ally, the journalist Jean Dominique, the local media has been awash with speculation that Aristide is seeking to rebuild his Fanmi Lavalas political party ahead of (as yet unscheduled) senate and local elections.
