INFRASTRUCTURE | Brazil's OAS demands compensation. On 7 June Costa Rica’s Planning Minister Roberto Gallardo told reporters that the government of President Laura Chinchilla had received a letter from the Brazilian construction giant, OAS, demanding C$22.68bn (US$45m) in compensation for the cancellation of a contract to upgrade and expand the San José-San Ramón national highway between the capital and the north central province of Alajuela. On 23 AprilChinchilla announced the cancellation of the concession following allegations of irregularities in the contract.
