ARGENTINA: Governors ratchet up pressure over soya tax

Two of Argentina's most powerful provincial governors piled pressure on the government of President Cristina Fernández this week to suspend the export tax on soya in order to attenuate the effects of the drought on the agricultural sector. The calls come days before the four main farming unions meet to discuss protest action and the publication of a report by Sociedad Rural, which represents agricultural producers, predicting that the severity of the drought will almost cut GDP growth in half this year.
