Endesa to appeal ruling on Punta Alcalde. On 8 August energy firm, Endesa Chile, the local subsidiary of Spain’s Endesa, said it would appeal the
1 August ruling by a Santiago appeals court which permanently cancelled the construction of its US$1.4bn Punta Alcalde thermal energy plant. The court’s ruling was in line with an appeal on environmental grounds filed by an international marine conservation NGO, Oceana, on behalf of the local fishing community in the Huasco Valley in northern Chile, where the plant was to be located, against a December 2012 council of ministers decision giving the project, which was expected to produce 740 megawatts (MW), the green light. The appeal by Endesa follows that by the council of ministers filed on 6 August.
