With a month until the 17 November presidential and legislative elections, the campaign is in full flow. The September commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the 1973 military coup might have exposed divisions within President Sebastián Piñera’s ruling Coalición por el Cambio [RBS-13-09], but ultimately it has not had much of an impact on the polls. While former president Michelle Bachelet (2006-2010) of the centre-left opposition coalition Nueva Mayoría (comprising the quadripartite Concertación and the Partido Comunista) remains the clear favourite, it is not clear whether she will manage a first-round victory.
