Weekly Report - 17 October 2013 (WR-13-41)

Odds improve for Colombia’s Santos

President Juan Manuel Santos is bouncing back in the opinion polls. In a survey released by the national daily El Tiempo on 13 October his approval rating stood at 41%, up seven percentage points on a month earlier. Santos will announce before 25 November whether he plans to seek re-election in May 2014. His recovery comes as the only political party likely to be able to provide an electable alternative to him, Centro Democrático (CD), the party of his predecessor Álvaro Uribe (2002-2010), is embroiled in internal conflict.
