ARGENTINA | Supreme court urges action on drugs. On 12 November the supreme court publicly demanded that the national government ‘adopt urgently’ the recommendations made by the federal judges of three northwestern provinces — Salta, Jujuy and Tucumán — to curb the growth of drug trafficking, in light of the ‘extreme gravity of the circumstances’. Last October the judges had issued a demand for a series of measures, including tighter border controls and an improvement of the prison service, to deal with the ‘worrying growth’ of crossborder drug trafficking people trafficking, smuggling an ‘the installation of foreign groups of great magnitude, which without exaggerating can be numbered in the thousands, that are operating in these kinds of illegal activities.’
