PERU: Scandal topples Merino and others

Beatriz Merino, the government official with the highest public approval rating (65%), has resigned as the result of an influence-peddling charge - the third case of alleged impropriety to have hit the Toledo administration in the last few weeks. This precipitated President Alejandro Toledo's third cabinet reshuffle in 25 weeks.
