Paraguay's congress purges supreme court

One more of Paraguay's supreme court justices, Luis Lezcano, resigned before the senate handed down its sentences in the impeachment proceedings congress had initially brought against six members of the court. This left only the president of the court, Bonifacio Rí­os, and justice Carlos Fernández Gadea, to deal with. On 12 December it did so, finding them guilty of corruption and malfeasance and removing them from office. The whole process took less than two months, a record in judicial or quasi-judicial proceedings in Paraguay.
