MEXICO-CENTRAL AMERICA: A new border surge?

Something new is happening along the US-Mexico border, involving the citizens and interests not just of Mexico and the US but also three Central American countries – Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala. As is often the case with migration flows, there are differences over both the causes of the problem, and over what the solution might be. The issue has rapidly jumped up the political agenda with the US government of President Barack Obama describing it as “an urgent humanitarian situation”.
