HONDURAS: Accord or no accord?

It is not clear, as this issue goes to press, whether the deadline of 15 October set by the ousted president of Honduras, Manuel Zelaya, for the resolution of the country's political crisis will be met. Positive noises are being made by Zelaya's representatives participating this week in talks with representatives of the de facto president, Roberto Micheletti, based on the points in the San José Accord, which would see Zelaya restored to office but unable to persevere with his plan of convening a constituent assembly to reform the constitution. Micheletti appears to have rejected a deal reached by the two negotiating teams.
