Panama's Martinelli faces indigenous discontent

Panama's President, Ricardo Martinelli, is facing his first significant protests from indigenous groups since taking office in July. On 17 September a 500km march organised by the umbrella group, Movilización Nacional Indigena, Campesina y Popular began from Bocas del Toro near the Costa Rican border, arriving in the capital on 12 October, the indigenous day of resistance (a response to the anniversary of the arrival of Christopher Columbus in the Americas - “Columbus Day" - celebrated on the same date).
